Caruso “Butterfly”

United Arrows, the select shop conglomerate that needs no introduction, offers a variety of Italian brands known for their excellent quality, one of which is Caruso. The Soragna based tailoring brand is well known for their elegant yet well constructed garments, with an exquisite attention to detail. Producing tailored clothing that empasises the Italian in Italian tailoring.

I was casually browsing the United Arrows “tailored jacket” section with the well known  ambivalent feeling of wishing nothing pops up but at the same time kind of hoping it does. Suddenly a light brown jacket caught my attention. Beautifully displayed in all its glory, a Caruso “butterfly” cotton herringbone jacket. The ambivalence part quickly faded as I noticed there was quite a markdown. That instantly sealed the deal. It’s a common theme, that I somehow always feel the need to excuse what might come off as being stingy, but aren’t we all persuaded by markdowns when it comes to items we want but don’t necessarily need?

The fabric is a 100% cotton herringbone twill weave, I am not sure about the fabric weight but I would categorise it as a spring/fall jacket as it feels quite heavy when worn. The light brown herringbone pattern is distinguishable with the contrast of the light and brown altering, but not too prominent.

It’s a deconstructed model with the front side lining in the same fabric as the rest of the jacket. This has both merits and demerits as the fabric feels very rigid over, let’s say wool, but slides more easily over cotton. The jacket is a three-roll-two, single-breasted jacket with double vents at the back. The gorge is set a little lower than what I usually prefer, but it makes for a little more casual look, without giving flashbacks to the early 20th century.

Caruso Butterfly Lining

I can’t get over how elegant the inside of the jacket is. The details are just exquisite. The same  cupro, in a golden finish, is used for the the sleeve lining, the pockets and hems on the excess fabrics on the inside. All very neat.

Conclusion

I think the pictures speaks for themselves; this is just a beautiful garment. It’s one of those items where you can tell nothing is overlooked and every little detail is thought about. If this is in any way an attest to the general quality and finesse that Caruso produces, which I think it probably is, I would not hesitate in recommending investing in a jacket or a suit from them.
