Fox Brothers Tweed
Ring Jacket
A tweed jacket was probably a long time coming, but to be honest tweed hasn’t really been my cup of tea, until now.
It sort of ranges in between light and heavy as far as weight goes, although 490g definitely makes it a substantial cloth, considering the modern standards. Similarly to the Pecora Nera cloth from Loro Piana, it keeps you warm enough to sometimes be worn without a coat. On the other hand, dissimilar to the Pecora Nera, this is not a soft fabric and as one would expect from a tweed, coarse to the touch.
Now, for someone like me whom prior to this jacket wasn’t a big fan of tweed, the good part is that it’s not the most tweed-like touch I’ve come across. It’s also quite flexible, thus not constraining movement, so it can certainly be worn rigorously as historically tweed has been. The good thing about tweed is that it’s durable, as this one has proven; handles rough weather incredibly well and although flexible, keeps the wind out.
That last part was also quite easy to test, given that this jacket is unlined.
Of course, with a bold orange overlay, simple colour scheme isn’t the first that comes to mind. You got to hand it to Fox Brothers for always walking the line between tradition and forward thinking. That said, some of the most interesting colour combinations are usually found within a tweed fabric, so it’s not like we’re treading beyond what’s acceptable here.
But since the overlay is spread out, there’s yet another balanced approach, which essentially helps making the whole pattern scheme look interesting but also refined.
Signing off with the part that got my attention in the first place: the colour scheme. As if a big scale glen check wasn’t enough a green jacket with an orange overlay fits right into my rotation. These two colours are perfect for each other, so on the note of balance, yet another factor is added.
