Ring Jacket
When considering the needs and wants regarding jacketing, some items stand out as a separate category: can’t live without. The good thing about a brand such as Ring Jacket is that in their ready to wear collection you’re bound to find either jackets you didn’t know you wanted before seeing them (the Ferla Cherry Blossom jacket comes to mind) and sometimes you’re lucky and find a jacket already on your list. This one was definitely the latter.
I reckon the reason I feel the need to use the word natural is do the natural nature of this cloth; made from all undyed wool, and I suppose there’s a certain placebo effect, but this fabric just feels natural.
As the weight might suggest, this fabric keeps you warm and it’s quite insulating. Even without lining this fabric has passed the test, keeping wind out while walking along the river and keeping me warm when visiting Sanzen-in in the north of Kyoto. -for reference this is usually where snow falls first.
As stated above, I wear this almost like a coat sometimes and come to think of it, a coat in this fabric might be a good idea.
There isn’t much to add as far as cloth properties goes. If you want a decently heavy, insulating, comfortable to wear fabric, this is it!
Cloth Look
It’s impossible not to notice the fairly big scaled houndstooth. I think perhaps this is about as big as I like this pattern on a jacket before it becomes too much. That said, I’m not opposed to trying.
What adds even more, is the fact that the wool is undyed and as a big aficionado of brown in menswear you can imagine how excited I was to see an undyed off-white and brown houndstooth fabric.
The other benefit of such a heavy pattern is the fact that you don’t really need a lot of accessories or colour. It balances that line between traditional and statement perfectly, which makes it the perfect fabric for both a turtleneck or a shirt and tie.
